The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, August 24th – Monday, August 31st 2009 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 30
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 31
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 10
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 16
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 3, Hamilton parish = 1, Smith’s parish = 1, Pembroke = 6, Warwick = 1, Southampton = 2 and Sandys parish = 2.

The majority of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 pedal cycle also reported stolen during the period. Of the 16 vehicles reported stolen, 2 were subsequently recovered.

Burglary

Around 5:30am today, Police received a report of a burglary at a Shawn Acres Lane, Southampton residence. The complainant stated that he was awoken by noises in his home and went to investigate. He discovered an unknown man inside the residence and confronted the intruder. The offender then made good his escape on foot. It does not appear that anything was taken. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 11:55pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Colony Lane, Southampton residence. The complainants stated that sometime between 9pm and 10:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into their home. The culprit stole a quantity of cash, a BlackBerry Pearl cellular phone, a digital camera and personal items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 5:30pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Dock Hill, Devonshire residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 7:45am and 5pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into his home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a white laptop computer. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
