Injury RTC - Around 6:15pm on Friday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Somerset Road in Sandys parish near the junction with Broome Street involving a Police vehicle and two cars. It appears that the unmarked Police car was traveling south on Somerset Road with its emergency equipment activated (lights & siren). One of the private cars was exiting Broome Street on to Somerset Road while the other private car was traveling north on Somerset Road when all three vehicles collided. The driver of the car exiting Broome Street, a 61 year old Sandys parish man, sustained a broken leg, a shoulder injury and cuts & abrasions to the body. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of his injuries and is currently recovering on a general ward. The driver of the northbound car, a 47 year old Sandys parish woman, as well as the driver & front seat passenger of the Police vehicle were not injured. Traffic was diverted away from the scene for approximately two hours. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 9:15am on Friday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Paget near the junction with Southcote Road involving a van and a motorcycle. It appears that the van was traveling east on South Road and the motorcycle was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 31 year old Sandys parish man, complained of back pain. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the van, a 43 year old Smith’s parish man, was not injured. The motorcycle was extensively damaged while the van received moderate front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Update – The male IBC employee injured in a collision at the company’s Park Road, Pembroke premises around 10am Friday is currently in stable condition in the Intensive Care Unit at KEMH. A female IBC employee also received a minor injury in the incident (bruising to her left thigh). Inquiries are ongoing.

Initial information on Friday morning suggested that the driver of the SUV and the injured party in the above incident were a 35 year old woman and a 25 year old male IBC employee respectively. However subsequently it was ascertained that there were actually two injured parties, a 24 year old Warwick woman (minor injury) and a 14 year old young man from St. George’s (more seriously injured), both employed by IBC. The driver of the SUV was a 34 year old St. George’s woman. The Police Media Relations Department acknowledges the error and apologizes for this unintentional mistake.

Willful Damage/Theft

Police have received several reports of willful damage/theft involving vehicles parked on Ocean Lane in Pembroke which occurred sometime between 10:30pm on Friday and 9:30am on Saturday. It appears that small quantities of cash and/or personal items were taken from some vehicles; while it does not appear that anything was taken from other vehicles. A 46 year old St. George’s man was arrested in connection with these incidents as well as similar incidents reported in the vicinity. Inquiries are ongoing by the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit.
