Fatal RTC - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 25 year old Daniel Phillips of Warwick. It appears that around 11:55pm on Wednesday Mr. Phillips was driving a car traveling east on South Road in Devonshire near the junction with Brimstone Hill when he lost control of the vehicle, collided with a wooden railing and then a tree. The car ended up in a nearby field. The Warwick man sustained serious injuries and was rushed to KEMH via ambulance; however he was subsequently pronounced dead by an on call physician at 12:20am Thursday. Mr. Phillips was the sole occupant of the vehicle, which was extensively damaged. The Bermuda Police Service would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family & friends of the deceased. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact PC Anthony Ricketts on 295-0011.

Advisory – Attempted Theft/Burglary in Smith’s parish

Around 10:25pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of an attempted theft at a Jennings Road, Smith’s parish residence. The complainants stated that around 10:15pm that day, an unknown man was seen rummaging though a van parked outside of the home. The male complainant exited the house and confronted the culprit, who ran off. The resident chased after him; however the offender was able to make good his escape on foot empty handed. The suspect is described as a black male wearing dark coloured clothing.

There were also two reported burglaries in the area – one on Jennings Road and the other on Holly Lane in Smith’s parish. The Jennings Road burglary occurred around 11:30pm and it doesn’t appear that anything was stolen, while the Holly Lane burglary occurred around 10pm and a quantity of cash was taken. Inquiries into these incidents are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.
