The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, July 13th - Monday July 20th 2009 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 23
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 49
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 4
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 20
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Hamilton parish = 2, Devonshire = 5, Pembroke = 6, Paget = 2, Warwick = 1, Southampton = 2 and Sandys parish = 1.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 small boat (10’) also stolen during the period. Of the 20 vehicles reported stolen, 4 were subsequently recovered, including the small boat.

Burglary

Around 7pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Pearman’s Hill West, Warwick residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 10am and 6pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The Bermuda Police Service continues to encourage members of the public to securely lock their homes before leaving them unattended for any length of time and to be vigilant for any suspicious activity or individuals in their neighbourhoods.
