Update - Sudden Death in Sandy's parish

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 23 year old Shakeya Deroza of Sandy’s parish. The investigation into her death is ongoing and the Bermuda Police Service would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family & friends of the deceased at this time. It is anticipated that an autopsy will be performed on the body of the deceased by a forensic pathologist as early as Monday, 13th July 2009.

Meanwhile a 36 year old Pembroke man is in Police custody.

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or the 24 hour confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 1-800-623-8477. Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with anyone who observed a male on the Railway Trail (between Somerset Bridge Post Office – Overplus Lane , Sandy’s) during the period 1:30pm – 3pm on Friday 10th July 2009, and encourage them to contact the Serious Crime Unit at 299-8115.  

A press conference will take place in due course to provide a specific update on the investigation.
