The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, June 29th - Monday July 6th 2009 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 20
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 33
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 3
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 24
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Hamilton parish = 4, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 10, Paget = 3, Warwick = 2, Southampton = 1 and Sandy’s parish = 2.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 24 vehicles reported stolen, 3 were subsequently recovered.

Injury RTC/Impaired Driving

At 12:10 this morning, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Kindley Field Road in St. George’s. It appears that an auxiliary cycle was traveling west on Kindley Field Road when the rider, a 28 year old Smith’s parish woman, lost control and fell to the ground. The Smith’s parish woman sustained facial, neck and internal injuries and was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. She is currently in the Intensive Care Unit; however, her injuries are not believed to be life threatening. The 28 year old Smith’s parish woman was also arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Burglary

Around 6:25pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Swansville Drive, Warwick residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 7:30am and 9am that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a black 23” flat screen TV. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 2pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Leacraft Hill Road, Southampton residence. The complainants stated that sometime between 10pm on Monday, June 29th and 2am on Tuesday, June 30th an unknown culprit gained entry into their home. The culprit stole two black ladies wallets containing a quantity of cash and personal items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The Bermuda Police Service has noticed a recent increase in reported burglaries in Warwick & Southampton. Members of the public are again reminded to securely lock their homes before leaving them unattended for any length of time and to be vigilant for any suspicious activity or individuals in their neighbourhood. Anyone with any information regarding these burglaries is encouraged to contact Police on 295-0011.
