June 30 - Weekly Review

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, June 22nd - Monday June 29th 2009 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 15
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 48
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 10
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 27
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Hamilton parish = 1, Pembroke = 11, Paget = 3, Warwick = 5, Southampton = 4 and Sandy’s parish = 2.

All of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles. Of the 27 vehicles reported stolen, 3 were subsequently recovered.

Missing Juvenile - Troylene Anderson

The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance in locating 17 year old Troylene Anderson. She has been found safe and well and returned to her accommodation.

Attempted Handbag Snatch

Around 10:15pm on Monday, Police received a report of an attempted handbag snatch on Inghams Drive in Pembroke. The victim, a 29 year old Pembroke woman, stated that around 10:10pm that day she was walking along Inghams Drive when an unknown man approached her from behind and grabbed her handbag. A brief struggle ensued; however, the Pembroke woman held on to her bag while screaming for help and the offender escaped on foot towards North Shore Road empty handed. The victim was not injured. The suspect is described as a dark skinned male, approximately 5’11” tall of slim build wearing dark coloured pants and a white T-shirt with a pattern on the front. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Injury RTC

At 9:50am on Monday, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on Harrington Sound Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Paynters Road. It appears that a rental cycle was traveling east on Harrington Sound Road when the rider, a 66 year old Pennsylvania man, lost control and fell to the ground. The American visitor was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of injuries to his left arm and right leg. The rental cycle received minor damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Burglary

Around 4:45pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Morgan Road, Warwick residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 8am and 4pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her apartment while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of jewelry. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 4pm on Monday, Police received a report of burglary at Whitney Institute Middle School. The complainant stated that sometime between 8pm on Sunday and 8am Monday, an unknown culprit or culprits gained entry into the gymnasium and stole a quantity of cash and food items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 7:10am on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Middle Road, Smith’s parish construction site. The complainant stated that sometime between 5pm on Saturday and 2pm on Sunday, an unknown culprit or culprits gained entry into a building on the site. The culprit(s) stole a quantity of tools. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
