Robbery

Around 1pm on Monday, Police attended a reported robbery at Ordnance Island in St. George’s. On arrival officers spoke with the victims, who are American visitors to the island. The couple, a 54 year old woman and a 53 year old man, stated that they were parking their rental cycles in the area when an unknown man approached them and took a bag out of one of the rental cycle’s baskets. When confronted by the couple, the suspect brandished a bladed article and then made good his escape in a waiting black car driven by another unknown man. The female visitor sustained abrasions to her shoulder and right ankle when she retreated from the suspect and fell to the ground as he brandished the bladed article. She was taken to KEMH for treatment. The male visitor was not injured. The bag was subsequently recovered by a member of the public and handed in to the St. George’s Police Station with most of the original contents intact, except for a camera and a cellular phone. The suspects, a 26 year old Warwick man and a 32 year old Southampton man, were located within the hour on North Shore Road in Smith’s parish and arrested. In addition, the vehicle they were traveling in was impounded. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222 or Detective Sergeant Jason Smith on 278-5105 or 515-0864.
