Tall Ships Race Advisory

Tall Ships Race Start - The Tall Ships race will start Monday 15th June as follows:

  • 4pm – Class ‘A’ (the biggest ships)
  • 4:30pm – Class ‘B’
  • 4:45pm – Class ‘D’

The start line will be off St David’s Head. The start line will be one and a half miles long and will be marked by the Royal Fleet Auxiliary ship Largs Bay at one end and the Bio Station ship the Atlantic Explorer at the other end. The ‘No Go Zone’ where local vessels must not enter is half a mile in either direction of the start line. Therefore the ‘No Go Zone’ measures an area of two and a half miles by one mile. All local vessels must keep out of this area. The only vessels allowed inside are the Tall Ships that are competing in the race and the three marked ‘press boats.’

All mariners are also reminded to keep clear of the Tall Ships when they are underway. The Class ‘A’ ships must stay in the channel and have limited maneuvering room.

The route that the Tall Ships take from the start of the race will be determined by the wind at the time. It is expected that from the start line, the Tall Ships will head north and go around North Rock, not along the South Shore.
