Disturbance At The Royal Bermuda Yacht Club

Further enquires into the incident at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club were made and the Bermuda Police Service (BPS) can now report the following. Around 1:25am on Sunday, May 31 the Police were called to a reported disturbance at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club. On arrival there was no sign of a disturbance but it appeared that an after prom party for the graduating class of BHS was taking place at the premises. One of the people at the scene reported a superficial injury and was treated by the attending ambulance crew. The Police later attended the KEMH and spoke to a 20 year old Sandy’s parish man who had sustained superficial lacerations to the back of his head; he was treated for his injuries and released. The 20 year old did not wish to make a formal complaint.

Enquires have revealed that the after prom party was organized by students of BHS and was intended for the graduating class and specially invited guests. However, at some point, the organizers decided to open this event to the public. Sometime during the party, a dispute arose between a young man from the Somerset area and another group and this led to him receiving the injury for which he sought treatment. A female graduate received a slight injury and was also treated at the scene by the attending ambulance crew; as the minor nature of her injury apparently did not require a hospital visit. Alcohol was being served at the event and it is believed that a number of persons at the event were under the age of 18. The BPS has commenced an investigation to determine the level of adult supervision at this event and whether any offences against the Liquor License Act were committed. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.
