Roads Policing Unit Statistics

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, March 23rd – Monday, March 30th 2009 there were:

* Reported Injury Collisions = 16
* Reported Damage Only Collisions = 44
* Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 2
* Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 21
* Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Hamilton parish = 1, Devonshire = 4, Pembroke = 7, Paget = 2, Warwick = 4 and Southampton = 2.

The majority of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 2 cars & 1 garbage truck also reported stolen during the period. Of the 21 vehicles reported stolen, 5 were subsequently recovered, including one of the cars and the garbage truck.
Witness Appeal - Fatal RTC

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the fatal road traffic collision that occurred around 10:40pm Sunday on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Twin Lanes South which claimed the life of 38 year old Emmanuel Sousa. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact PC Delworth Smith on 295-0011.
Missing Person - St. Claire McDonald Augustus
The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for the public’s assistance in locating 55 year old St. Claire McDonald Augustus. Mr. Augustus, who is of no fixed abode, was last seen on Thursday, February 26th 2009 at Friswells Hill in Devonshire. He is known to frequent the Salvation Army on North Street in Pembroke and was also sleeping in a container in that area. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of 55 year old St. Claire McDonald Augustus is encouraged to contact the Child Victims Unit on 295-0011.

We have reason to be concerned for his well-being and would like to locate Mr. Augustus as a matter of urgency.
Missing Juvenile - Travis Malcolm Lowe
The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for the public’s assistance in locating 16 year old Travis Malcolm Lowe. The teenager is described as light skinned, 5’3” tall weighing 110 pounds with black hair. He is known to frequent the Happy Valley Road Pembroke area and was reported missing on Thursday, February 26th 2009. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Travis Malcolm Lowe is encouraged to contact the Child Victims Unit on 295-0011.
Missing Person - Mehdi David Yahi
The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for the public’s assistance in locating 30 year old Mehdi David Yahi. Mr. Yahi, a French national visiting the island is described as a white male, approximately 5’7” tall of slim build, clean shaven with black hair. He apparently arrived in Bermuda on Sunday, January 25th 2009 via British Airways. It appears that Mr. Yahi was traveling alone and was last seen around 8pm on Saturday, January 31st at the Fairmont Southampton Resort where he apparently attended the Heather Nova concert. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Mehdi David Yahi is encouraged to contact the main Police number, 295-0011.
Burglary
Around 6pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Cattle Lane, Southampton residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 10:30am and 5:20pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of jewelry and a small quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
