The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, April 6th – Monday, April 13th 2009 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 16
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 30
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 7
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 21
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Devonshire = 3, Pembroke = 11, Paget = 1, Warwick = 1, Southampton = 3 and Sandy’s parish = 1.

The majority of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 car & 1 motocross cycle also reported stolen during the period. Of the 21 vehicles reported stolen, 7 were subsequently recovered.

Missing Person - St. Claire McDonald Augustus

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for the public’s assistance in locating 55 year old St. Claire McDonald Augustus (pictured left). Mr. Augustus, who is of no fixed abode, was last seen on Thursday, February 26th 2009 at Friswells Hill in Devonshire. He is known to frequent the Salvation Army on North Street in Pembroke and was also sleeping in a container in that area. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of 55 year old St. Claire McDonald Augustus is encouraged to contact the Child Victims Unit on 295-0011.

We have reason to be concerned for his well-being and would like to locate Mr. Augustus as a matter of urgency.

Missing Person - Mehdi David Yahi

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to appeal for the public’s assistance in locating 30 year old Mehdi David Yahi (pictured right). Mr. Yahi, a French national visiting the island is described as a white male, approximately 5’7” tall of slim build, clean shaven with black hair. He apparently arrived in Bermuda on Sunday, January 25th 2009 via British Airways. It appears that Mr. Yahi was traveling alone and was last seen around 8pm on Saturday, January 31st at the Fairmont Southampton Resort where he apparently attended the Heather Nova concert. Anyone with any information on the whereabouts of Mehdi David Yahi is encouraged to contact the main Police number, 295-0011.

Witness Appeal - Fatal RTC

Police are continuing to appeal for any witnesses to the fatal road traffic collision that occurred around 1:30am Sunday, April 5th on South Road in Warwick near the junction with Dunscombe Road that claimed the life of Winston Burrows. Police are interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed the collision or anyone who came upon the incident and may have assisted in any way. In particular, we are seeking the male driver of a taxi who provided a fire extinguisher from his vehicle to assist in putting out the flames. Anyone with any information is encouraged to contact Sergeant Derricka Brangman at the Somerset Police Station on 234-1010.

Advisory - Police Motorcycle Training Course

The Bermuda Police Service would like the motoring public to be aware that the Driver Training Unit will be conducting a Police Motorcycle Training Course for the next two weeks (the course started on Monday, April 6th). As usual the riders will be highly visible with the use of reflective vests or jackets.

Riders at times will be training at excessive speeds with or without the use of emergency equipment. Therefore we are asking the motoring public to be vigilant if they are traveling in the same area as the trainee riders. The Bermuda Police Service thanks the motoring public in advance for their co-operation.

Burglary

At 8:50pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Lusher Hill East, Warwick residence. The complainant stated that sometime during the day an unknown culprit gained entry into his home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash and personal items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 6:10pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Mullet Bay Road, St. George’s residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 9:15am and 4:45pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into his home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a men’s Seiko watch and a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

At 5:45pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Mullet Bay Road, St. George’s residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 7:30am and 5pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 3:45pm on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Sun Valley Road, Warwick residence. The complainant stated that sometime between 9:20am and 3:40pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied. The culprit stole a quantity of jewelry and cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
