Injury RTC

Around 5:55pm on Monday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Southampton near the junction with Tribe Road #3. It appears that a car was stationary at the traffic lights near The Reefs hotel when another car traveling east on South Road approached the traffic lights and was unable to stop, colliding with the rear of the first car. The driver of the first car, a 44 year old Southampton woman, was not injured. A 14 month old boy was in a child safety seat in the rear of this vehicle and was taken to KEMH for evaluation as a precaution; however, the child suffered no injury due to the fact that he was properly restrained in the child safety seat at the time of the collision. The driver of the second car, a 43 year old Warwick woman, complained of soreness to her body and was taken to KEMH for evaluation. The first car received moderate rear end damage while the second car received moderate damage to multiple areas. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

It appears that the victims, who are visitors to the island, were traveling west along North Shore Road on a rental cycle when an unknown man on a motorcycle rode up behind them. The culprit took the female visitor’s handbag from the rental cycle’s basket before making good his escape. The black handbag contained two Nintendo DS (one black & one white) and personal items. The visitors, a 23 year old New York woman and a 25 year old New York man, were not injured.
