E-mails, Texts Circulating Regarding Alleged Shooting

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of an abundance of e-mails and text messages that circulated throughout the community yesterday claiming that a shooting had taken place or was about to take place on Court Street in Pembroke. We would like to inform the public that no official reports of any such activity were made to the Police on Thursday.

The Bermuda Police Service is asking those individuals who may be sending out similar mischievous messages via text and e-mail to cease immediately.

However, Police continue to encourage anyone who may have any legitimate information regarding the shootings to call 299-4323 or the confidential 24 hour Crime Stoppers Hotline on 1-800-623-8477. Calls made to the Crime Stoppers Hotline are completely anonymous, as the calls are answered in Miami, Florida U.S.A.

Police officers are continuing to actively patrol various areas of the island to ensure that no unlawful acts of violence take place.

The Bermuda Police Service is also appealing to the local news media to be responsible in their reporting of these matters, to ensure that locals and visitors alike are not unnecessarily alarmed.
