Thu, 2008-09-04

September 5th 2008 marks the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Fabian and the loss of three of our colleagues – Constable Stephen Symons, Constable Nicole O’Connor and Station Duty Officer Gladys Saunders. The Bermuda Police Service is joining with the September 5th Foundation to recognize this anniversary and to remember our fallen colleagues.

There will be a remembrance motorcycle ride and a reception at the Prospect PRC to mark the fifth anniversary on Sunday 7th September.

The Ride

The Remembrance Ride will depart City Hall car park at 3:30pm on Sunday 7th September with a Police escort, heading to the Memorial Bench at Kindley Field Park for the laying of wreaths/flowers. The ride will continue on to St. George’s , turn on Ordnance Island and then head back to the Prospect Police Recreation Club.

This ride is open to everyone regardless of what type of moped, motorcycle or scooter you ride.

The Reception

The reception will take place on the patio at the Prospect Police Recreation Club, commencing 5:30pm on Sunday 7th September with a few words from various dignitaries. Food and entertainment will be provided.

Remembrance Ride Pins

As in past years, a supply of pins will be available to commemorate the annual motorcycle ride. The design of the pins is different each year. Pins are available for $10 each with all proceeds going to the September 5th Foundation to provide educational scholarships for the children of the victims. The pins will be available for purchase at the City Hall car park on the day of the ride and at the reception.
