Assault

Tue, 2009-01-27

Around 3pm on Tuesday, Police received a report of an assault at Par-La-Ville Park in Pembroke. It appears that around 2:15pm that day the victim, a 21 year old Sandy’s parish man, was walking through the park when he was approached by two young men and a young woman. The two male suspects assaulted the victim, with one of the assailants using an object to strike the Sandy’s parish man in the head. All three suspects then made good their escape. The victim sustained a laceration to the head and was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The suspects are described as a 5’ tall woman of large build; a light brown skinned male of slim build with facial hair; and a dark skinned male, clean shaven but with a goatee. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. The 23 year old Devonshire man initially arrested in connection with this matter has since been released. Any witnesses or anyone with any information is encouraged to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Advisory – Counterfeit Currency

The Bermuda Police Service Fraud Unit continues to receive reports of counterfeit Bermuda $100 notes in circulation around the island. We are reminding all banks and other businesses as well as members of the public to be vigilant and to check any Bermuda $100 bills they receive for the three main security features: the ‘tuna fish’ watermark; the silver security thread; and the silver ship.

It also appears that some of these counterfeit Bermuda $100 bills have made their way into various financial institutions. Therefore, if a member of the public discovers the currency they received is counterfeit, we are encouraging them to turn it in to the nearest Police Station immediately. Do not try and spend it, as it is an offence to knowingly try and pass counterfeit money.

Anyone with any information about these counterfeit notes is encouraged to contact the Fraud Unit on 295-0011.
