Marine Incidents

At 3:30pm on Sunday, Police received a report of two men being injured while participating in the Around the Island boat race. It appears that the pilot, a 22 year old Pembroke man and co-pilot, a 32 year old Devonshire man, were injured when their boat was in collision with a wave in the vicinity of Town Cut in St. Georges. Both men were taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of relatively minor injuries (bruising & lacerations) and subsequently released. Apparently there was another similar incident that occurred on South Shore which also resulted in minor injuries to the pilot of that boat, who was treated at KEMH for bruising to his head and a bloody nose before being released.

Around 2:25pm on Sunday, two men were injured while participating in the Around the Island boat race. It appears that the pilot, a 32 year old Smiths parish man and co-pilot, a 31 year old St. Georges man were ejected from their boat near Five Star Island in Southampton. Both men were taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The Smiths parish man (pilot) is currently being treated in the Intensive Care Unit. The St. Georges mans injuries (co-pilot) are not believed to be life threatening. Anyone who witnessed this mishap is asked to contact the Marine Police at 299-4584. In particular we would like to speak with the operators of 2 jet skis which assisted following the accident. This incident was not initially reported to Police.
