Handbag Snatch

Around 9pm on Sunday, Police received a report of a handbag snatch. The victim, a 32 year old Smiths parish woman, stated that at 8:55pm she and her husband were walking east along Pitts Bay Road in Pembroke near the BF&M building when an unknown man walking along Woodbourne Avenue approached them. The suspect grabbed the victims handbag and a brief struggle ensued; however, the suspect managed to make good his escape with the handbag, running away along Woodbourne Avenue. The Smiths parish woman was not injured. The black handbag contained a Nokia cellular phone and personal items. The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 58” tall of medium build, wearing a black jacket, red shirt, dark coloured jeans and a black helmet. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Injury RTC

Around 7:30am on Saturday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on Front Street in the City of Hamilton involving a van and a pedestrian. It appears that the pedestrian, a 42 year old Sandys parish woman, was crossing Front Street at the pedestrian crossing outside Number 1 Shed when she was struck by the van, which was traveling west on Front Street. The Sandys parish woman was taken via ambulance to KEMH for treatment of a fractured left shoulder, fractured right hand and an abrasion over her left eye. The driver of the van, a 38 year old Warwick man, was not injured. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Advisory

The Bermuda Police Service is advising all motorists and walkers/joggers to use caution on the islands roads, especially during the early morning and at night. All walkers/joggers should wear clothing which can easily be seen by motorists (light coloured clothing and/or a reflective vest). Motorists should also ensure that their vehicles headlights are illuminated during the hours of dawn and dusk.

Weekend Activity

Over the weekend there was 1 person arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 11 reported burglaries. There were also 24 reported damage only road traffic collisions, 14 reported road traffic collisions resulting in injury and 4 vehicles reported taken without their owners consent.
