Attempted Robbery

Around 1:55pm on Thursday, Police attended a reported attempted robbery at The Reefs on South Road in Southampton. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 69 year old Sandys parish woman, who works at a gift shop on the premises. She stated that around 1:45pm she was working in the shop when a young man entered and asked to purchase some food items. The young man paid her for the items and as she opened the cash register to complete the transaction, the suspect grabbed the 69 year old Sandys parish woman and a struggle ensued. The suspect managed to overpower the victim and then went for the cash register; however, he was confronted by other hotel staff that heard the commotion and came to the aid of their colleague. The staff members managed to detain the suspect after a brief struggle; as a result, nothing was stolen. The suspect, a 21 year old Smiths parish man, was subsequently arrested. The Sandys parish woman sustained soreness and abrasions to her left arm and leg. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing by the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit. The Bermuda Police Service would like to commend the actions of the individuals who came to the aid of the victim in this matter.

Witness Appeal - Injury RTC

Police are appealing for witnesses to a serious road traffic collision that took place around 8:30pm Thursday. It appears that a 37 year old Warwick man was traveling east on Palmetto Road near the junction with Barkers Hill when he came into contact with the round-a-bout and fell off his auxiliary cycle. He was rushed to KEMH via ambulance where he is currently listed in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit with serious head and chest injuries. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing. Police are also appealing for witnesses to the serious single vehicle road traffic collision that took place around 12:45am Thursday. The driver of the car, a 23 year old Paget woman, remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit at KEMH. The cars front seat passenger, a 23 year old St. Georges woman, sustained facial injuries and abrasions which are not believed to be life threatening.
