Injury RTC/Impaired Driving

Around 7:25 this morning, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on North Shore Road in Hamilton parish near the junction with Studio Lane involving a motorcycle and a pedal cycle. It appears that both vehicles were traveling west on North Shore Road with the pedal cycle in front of the motorcycle. As the motorcycle approached the pedal cycle, the pedal cyclist attempted to make a right turn on to the Railway Trail and the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 24 year old St. Georges man, sustained an injury to his right foot. The pedal cyclist, a 75 year old Pembroke man, sustained a head injury. Both men were taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 11am on Monday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at the junction of South Road and Middle Road in Southampton, in the area of Barnes Corner involving a bus and a motorcycle. It appears that the bus was traveling north on South Road and the motorcycle was traveling east on Middle Road when the vehicles collided at the junction as the bus attempted to turn on to Middle Road and the motorcycle attempted to turn on to South Road. The rider of the motorcycle, a 50 year old Sandys parish man, sustained abrasions to both legs and his right arm; however, he declined medical attention. The bus driver, a 54 year old Devonshire man was not injured and no passengers were injured. The motorcycle was extensively damaged; but the bus was not damaged at all.

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of counterfeit $50 and $100 Bermuda notes being passed at various locations around the island recently. We are advising all businesses to be on the lookout for individuals attempting to pass such counterfeit currency. Genuine Bermuda currency can be identified by the ‘tuna fish watermark, the ‘security strip or the ‘silver ship on the note. Anyone with any information about these incidents is encouraged to contact Police on 295-0011.

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to remind the motoring public to secure their parked vehicles and not to leave valuables in an unattended car, bike or truck. There have been several thefts from unattended vehicles recently; particularly at the Bulls Head Car Park where in some cases cash, portable electronic devices and personal items have been taken. We are asking members of the public to be vigilant for suspicious activity or individuals hanging around parked vehicles.
