S.T.E.P.

Police have remained focused for the last week on a very specific traffic programme called S.T.E.P. (Strategic Traffic Enforcement Program).

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit issued over 80 moving violation tickets over the weekend with 2 persons arrested for stolen cycles and fraudulent documents.

Officers from the Roads Policing Unit have been targeting:

  • Speed

  • Helmet Straps

  • Tint

  • Illegal License Plates

During last week 19 vehicles were stolen, 1 car, 10 motorcycles, 2 auxiliary cycles and 6 livery cycles. Six of those vehicles were not locked. The trend of leaving vehicles without locking them continues to make the job of stealing cycles and cars very easy. The Police are reminding the motoring public to lock all vehicles even if your are only leaving your vehicle unattended for a second. That is all time that thieves need, to steal a car or bike.

Meantime, at 7:20pm yesterday Police attended North Shore Road, Hamilton parish near the former Perfume Factory where a Police vehicle was partially submerged in a large hole on the sidewalk. Due to heavy rains and flooding, the edge of the roadway was not visible resulting in the vehicle mounting the sidewalk which collapsed under the weight of the vehicle. This caused the front of the vehicle to drop about four feet into a large hole about 12 feet deep and 3 feet wide. One wheel of the vehicle was still on solid ground which prevented the total submersion of the car into the hole. The vehicle was extricated by D&J Construction who offered their assistance to the Police. There was no damage to the vehicle and none of the officers received any injuries.
