S.T.E.P.

For the next two weeks Police will continue to focus on a very specific traffic programme known as S.T.E.P. (Strategic Traffic Enforcement Program).

On Wednesday 2nd July 2008, Police announced an increased capacity in the Roads Policing Unit (RPU) to address anti-social road behaviour.

Since the operation was reinvigorated we can report the following. Officers from the Roads Policing Unit have been targeting:

  • Speed
  • Helmet Straps
  • Tint
  • Illegal License Plates

Also of note:

  • Investigations into fatal road collisions in recent months have indicated that helmets not being fastened has been a major contributing factor to injury or death
  • Over 200 moving violation summonses have been written since the commencement of the initiative announced last week
  • Police Community Action Teams and watch patrols have been acting in support of the initiative as well

Accordingly, we would also like to announce that for the next 2 weeks speed, helmet straps, and tint will be the focus of the RPU, in accordance with the S.T.E.P. programme.

In the following two weeks, we will rotate to new offences to be targeted.
