Flight Diversion

At 4:30pm on Wednesday, Police received a report of a flight diversion to Bermuda due to the alleged unruly behaviour of several passengers. The First Choice Airways flight was en route from Manchester, UK to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic with 256 passengers onboard at the time. The plane landed in Bermuda at 5:20pm and three UK nationals, a 35 year old man, a 26 year old man and a 25 year old man, were escorted off the flight and subsequently arrested. The First Choice Airways flight then continued on to its original destination. There were no reported injuries and no damage to the plane. One of the suspects was repatriated to the UK on Thursday while the two other men allegedly involved will be repatriated as soon as possible. It is anticipated that all three men will be dealt with by UK authorities upon their return.

Injury RTC

At 3am on Thursday, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Devonshire near the junction with Brighton Hill Road . It appears that a car was traveling west on South Road and a motorcycle was traveling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the cycle, a 31 year old Smith’s parish man, sustained facial injuries and an injury to his left hand. The driver of the car, a 73 year old Southampton man, was not injured. The motorcycle and the car both received extensive front end damage. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Impaired Driving

At 3am on Thursday, Police were on duty along Crow Lane in Pembroke when they observed an auxiliary cycle being ridden in an erratic manner. The officers caused the vehicle to stop and spoke with the rider, a 16 year old young man from Paget. The teenager exhibited signs of impairment and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and detained at Hamilton Police Station after failing the alco-analyser test.

In a similar incident half an hour earlier in the same location, a 16 year old young man from Smith’s parish was also arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and detained at Hamilton Police Station after failing the alco-analyser test.

New Year’s Eve/New Year’s Day Activity

From 7am Wednesday to 7am Friday, there were 4 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 5 reported burglaries. There were also 9 reported damage only road traffic collisions, 2 reported road traffic collisions resulting in injury and 7 vehicles reported taken without their owners’ consent. The Bermuda Police Service would like to thank the public for their co-operation over the holiday period which resulted in no major incidents being reported to Police.
