High Speed Chase

Around 2:05pm on Tuesday, Police were on mobile patrol in Pembroke when an officer in a marked Police car observed a car traveling at a fairly high rate of speed on Woodlands Road. The officer pursued the vehicle, caught up with it on St. John’s Road near the junction with Berkeley Road and signaled for the driver to pull over. Instead the driver, a 50 year old Pembroke man accelerated away, overtaking two vehicles and leading Police on a high speed chase. The pursuit continued along North Shore Road, Glebe Road and on to Parsons Road where the Pembroke man was finally forced to stop due to heavy traffic in the area. During the chase several motorists were forced to take evasive action to avoid a collision. The driver of the car was arrested, taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained. He was subsequently issued tickets for dangerous driving, no vehicle license and no insurance. A court appearance is anticipated at a later date.

Handbag Snatch

Around 10am on Tuesday, Police received a report of a handbag snatch on Knapton Hill in Smith’s parish near the junction with Idle Acres Road. The victim, a 54 year old Pembroke woman, stated that around 9:30am that day she was walking west on Knapton Hill when an unknown man on a motorcycle rode up from behind and snatched the three bags she was carrying. The suspect then made good his escape traveling in a westerly direction. The Pembroke woman was not injured. The bags contained a quantity of cash and personal items. The suspect is described as a male wearing a white T-shirt and a black helmet riding a black motorcycle. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 293-2222.

Injury RTC

At 12:10am today, Police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury on South Road in Southampton, near the Southampton Rangers Sports Club. It appears that a car was traveling east on South Road when the driver, a 35 year old Warwick man, lost control and collided with a wall. The Warwick man sustained a laceration to his left leg and bruising to his head. He was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of his injuries and later released. He was also issued a ticket for driving without due care and attention. The car received extensive front end damage.

Damage Only RTC

Around 2:30pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision on South Road in Smith’s parish near the junction with Collectors Hill. It appears that a car was exiting the parking lot of the A1 Supermarket when the driver, a 65 year old Smith’s parish woman, lost control and collided with a wall. The Smith’s parish woman was not injured; however, the car received extensive front end damage.
