Roads Policing Unit Statistics

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, November 24th – Monday, December 1st 2008 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 21
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 46
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 4
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 23
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 3, Hamilton parish = 1, Smith’s parish = 1, Devonshire = 2, Pembroke = 13, Paget = 1, Warwick = 1 and Sandy’s parish = 1.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 car also removed during the period. Of the 23 vehicles reported stolen 5 were subsequently recovered.

Burglary
Around 12:30am today, Police received a report of a burglary at a Ridgeway Road, Pembroke residence. The complainant stated that earlier she was sitting in her living room watching TV when she heard noises coming from her bedroom. She went to investigate and discovered an unknown man in her bedroom. The Pembroke resident confronted the intruder, who managed to grab her pink purse before making good his escape. The purse contained a quantity of cash and personal items. The suspect is described as a dark skinned male, approximately 6’1” tall of slim build with a short haircut wearing a tan coloured jacket and blue jeans. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

At 9:55pm on Monday, Police attended a reported burglary at a Shell Point Road, St. George’s residence. On arrival officers spoke with the complainant who stated that sometime between 5:30pm and 9:30pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into the home and stole a green canvas bag containing a BlackBerry cellular phone as well as a quantity of cash, jewelry and personal items. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 6am on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at a Paget guest property. The complainants, who are visitors to the island, stated that sometime overnight an unknown culprit gained entry into their room and removed a purse containing a cellular phone as well as a quantity of jewelry and cash. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
