Roads Policing Unit Statistics

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to use care, caution and courtesy on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and those traveling on motorcycles to fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, October 27th – Monday, November 3rd 2008 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 21
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 49
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 3
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 12
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: St. George’s = 1, Hamilton parish = 1, Devonshire = 1, Pembroke = 8 and Southampton = 1.

The majority of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 car also reported stolen during the period. Of the 12 vehicles reported stolen 2 were subsequently recovered, including the car.

Burglary

Around 7:45 this morning, Police received a report of a burglary at a Knapton Estates Road, Smith’s parish residence. The complainant stated that sometime during the past week, an unknown culprit or culprits gained entry into the home. The culprit(s) stole a flat screen TV and a DVD player. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

At 4:10 this morning, Police attended a reported burglary at Crow Lane Bakery on Church Street in Pembroke. On arrival officers spoke with the complainant who stated that sometime overnight an unknown culprit gained entry into the store. The culprit made an untidy search; however, it does not appear that anything was taken. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

At 6:20pm on Monday, Police attended a reported burglary at a North Shore Road, Pembroke residence. On arrival officers spoke with the complainant who stated that sometime between 9:20am and 5pm that day, an unknown culprit gained entry into her home while it was unoccupied. It appears that nothing was taken from the residence. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Around 8:35am on Monday, Police received a report of a burglary at Tree Tops 2 nursery school in Southampton. The complainant stated that sometime over the weekend an unknown culprit gained entry into the premises. The culprit stole a quantity of cleaning supplies. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
