Police Confirm Death of Jason Mello

Police can now confirm the death of 25-year-old Jason Mello who died as a result of a firearms incident that took place on Friday, April 18, 2016, at approximately ‪7:35pm on Band room Lane in Pembroke.  ‪Tomorrow, ‪August 22, police will host a press conference in the Media Room at Hamilton Police Station where they will give specifics of the investigation and officially appeal for witnesses.

Meantime, at 1:40pm on August 20, 2016, police received a report of a death onboard the cruise ship, Royal Caribbean Grandeur of the Seas which was berthed at Heritage Wharf in Dockyard. It was reported that the 45-year-old male American national was found dead in his cabin. His death was certified by the ships' doctor.  Foul play is not suspected and the Bermuda Police Service is liaising with the relevant ship authorities.

At 7:10pm on Saturday, August 20, a ‪Jet Blue Flight 361 was diverted to Bermuda from the Dominican Republic as a result of a 63-year-old male suffering from chest pains. The man was taken to King Edward Memorial Hospital for treatment and the flight continued on its journey.

‪At 8:15pm on Saturday‪, police received a report of a near drowning at Clearwater Beach. It appears that a 70-year-old male visitor to the island swam a distance from shore to retrieve a ball and subsequently found himself in difficulty in the water. Three males swam out to the distressed man and assisted him to shore where he later appeared to in satisfactory condition.  The 70-year-old man refused further medical assistance. Police would like to thank the three men who came to the aid of the tourist.
