American Visitor Dies in Horseshoe Bay Incident [Updated]

Police and first responders attended a report of a medical emergency at Horseshoe Bay Beach in Southampton at 2:26pm today (Thursday).

Upon police arrival it was ascertained that a male ran into breathing difficulty at the beach, resulting in lifeguards performing CPR. The victim was subsequently taken to the hospital via ambulance where at this time his condition is considered critical.

A further update will be given in due course.

Update: Police can confirm a 38 39 year old male from the United States died as a result of the incident at Horseshoe Bay Beach today.

Death was certified at 3pm by a doctor at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.

No further information will be given until the next of kin has been notified.

Update: Friday, June 8th - The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 39 year old American Jacolbe Fleming and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends. Mr. Fleming, from Jonesboro Georgia, apparently was swimming at Horseshoe Bay Beach in Southampton at 2:26pm on Thursday June 7th when it appears that he ran into difficultly in the water resulting in lifeguards performing CPR. He was subsequently taken to the hospital via ambulance where he was pronounced dead at 3pm.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the deceased's loved ones at this difficult time.


All incidents are under investigation.
