Eighth Road Fatality for 2017: Sophie Fraser-Smith

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 21 year old Sophie Fraser-Smith and extends sincere condolences to her family and friends.

Ms. Fraser-Smith was seriously injured around 3:10pm Tuesday, July 18th when a truck collided with the motorcycle she was riding along Middle Road in Southampton, near the junction with Scenic Heights Pass.

She was rushed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance but later succumbed to her injuries.

A Family Liaison Officer has been appointed to support Ms. Fraser-Smith’s family at this tragic time.

The truck driver, believed to be a 40 year old Pembroke man, was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.

He complied with a demand for breath samples, passed the test and was later released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Traffic diversions were in effect in the vicinity of Heron Bay Primary School for several hours while collision investigators examined the scene.

Both vehicles involved have been impounded and the investigation into this year’s eighth road fatality continues.

Any witnesses that have not already come forward are asked to contact Constable Walter Jackson on 247-1230 or e-mail wjackson@bps.bm.

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
