JSEOD Partner with UK EOD for Safe Disposal of Unexploded Ordnance

Sea conditions on Friday 16th June prevented the Joint Services Explosives Ordnance Disposal (JSEOD) team, made up of members of the Bermuda Police Service and Royal Bermuda Regiment, from detonating recently located items in the Chaplin Bay area that have been confirmed as military ordnance from World War II.

Working in partnership with UK EOD experts, another attempt will be made Tuesday, 20th June using the safest method of disposal.

In addition, team members will be searching areas of the south shore to see if any other items have been uncovered by storm action.

The items found to date do not present a danger unless people try and move them from their location.

As before, the public are reminded that if they find anything that they believe to be military ordnance, not to touch it and immediately call 911.

All incidents are under investigation. Police are appealing to members of the public who have witnessed these incidents or may have information pertaining to them to contact their respective Police Station, Police Headquarters at 295-0011 or the confidential Crimestoppers Hotline on 1 (800) 623-8477.
