Robbery

Around 8:50pm on Saturday, Police received a report of a robbery at the Fairmont Southampton Princess hotel. It appears that the victims, a 37 year old man and a 33 year old woman who are both American visitors to the island, were standing on the hotel’s beach access road near the tennis courts waiting for the shuttle bus when three unknown men approached them from behind demanding money. The visitors refused and a struggle ensued. The female visitor had her black purse containing a cellular phone, digital camera and a quantity of cash taken from her, but managed to escape and call for help. However, the male visitor sustained injuries to his head, torso and right arm/hand during the struggle with the assailants, who were armed with blunt objects. The suspects fled on foot towards South Road as the shuttle bus approached the area. The 37 year old victim was taken to KEMH for treatment of his injuries and later released. The 33 year old female visitor was not injured. The suspects are described as three black men wearing dark coloured clothing. One of the men was also wearing a crash helmet. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.
