Impaired Driving

At 12:30 this morning, Police attended a reported single vehicle damage only road traffic collision on Wilkinson Avenue in Hamilton parish. It appears that a blue Hyundai Getz car was traveling east on Wilkinson Avenue when the driver lost control, colliding with the west bound wall and then the east bound wall. As a result the car sustained extensive front end damage. The driver, a 25 year old Warwick man, was subsequently arrested for suspicion of impaired driving and taken to the Hamilton Police Station, where he was detained after failing the alco-analyser test. The three passengers in the vehicle, a 16 year old Pembroke boy, a 17 year old Paget boy and a 24 year old Warwick woman were not injured. Inquiries are underway.

Assault

At 8:40pm on Saturday, Police attended a reported assault at a Bulkhead Drive, Warwick residence. It appears that the victim, a 36 year old Sandy’s parish man, was assaulted by two men outside the Warwick home. The men beat the Sandy’s parish man about the body with a baseball bat and a hammer before fleeing the scene in a car. The assailants are known to the victim. The 36 year old was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment of injuries to the back of the head (laceration), left arm (fracture), right leg (fracture) and bruising; however, his injuries are not believed to be life threatening. He is currently on a general ward at the hospital. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.

We are also advising residents to secure any loose items around their homes (like lawn furniture) which could be affected by strong winds.
