Robbery

Around 6:20 this morning, Police received a report of a robbery on Wellington Slip Road in St. George’s. The victim, a 25 year old Smith’s parish man (taxi driver), stated that around 6am he picked up two men at King’s Square who indicated they wanted to go to the City of Hamilton. However, they asked to pick up a friend first. The taxi drove up Rose Hill, on to Wellington Back Road and then into the St. George’s Cricket Club grounds. The two men asked the driver to stop, and got out. One of the suspects proceeded to pull the victim out of the driver’s seat demanding money and punched the Smith’s parish man in the face. The taxi driver gave the men his wallet containing $50 in cash and they fled the area on foot. The victim’s only apparent injury was a small scratch to the neck. The suspects are described as a light brown skinned male of heavy build, approximately 5’9” tall with frizzy dark hair wearing a white t-shirt and jeans; and a medium brown skinned male of medium build, approximately 5’8” tall wearing a white t-shirt and jeans with short black hair. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the St. George’s Criminal Investigation Unit on 297-1122.

At 3:15 this morning, Police received a report of a robbery at the Somerset Bus Depot on Beacon Hill Road in Sandy’s parish. The victim, a 38 year old Paget man (security guard) stated that around 3:10am an unknown male entered the security office brandishing a knife and stole the victim’s driver’s license and ATM card before making good his escape. The victim was not injured during the incident. Police searched the area for the suspect, but were unsuccessful in locating him. The suspect is described as a man of small build, approximately 5’8” tall wearing a green ski mask, a green shirt and a green pair of jeans with black sneakers. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information to contact the Somerset Criminal Investigation Unit on 234-1010.

Theft

At 8:45am on Wednesday, Police attended a reported theft from Dismount Robinson on Front Street in the City of Hamilton. The complainant stated she was speaking with the suspect, a 36 year old Pembroke woman, when the suspect grabbed the Physical Abuse Centre charity box off the counter and ran out of the store. Police searched the area and located the suspect at the junction of Church Street and Court Street. The Pembroke woman was arrested, taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained. The Physical Abuse Centre charity box and $29 in cash were recovered. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

The Bermuda Police Service is continuing to urge the public and businesses to be vigilant for counterfeit currency in circulation on the island. The latest serial number of counterfeit BDA $50 notes being passed is DI 899196.
