Attempted Robbery

At 10:55am on Monday, Police attended a reported attempted robbery at the junction of Woodlands Road and St. John’s Road in Pembroke, outside Cycle Care. The victim, a 61 year old Pembroke woman, stated that around 10:50am she entered Cycle Care. A short time later she exited the store and went to her van to retrieve her keys from her handbag when an unknown man reached into the handbag, attempting to steal her wallet. As she screamed for help, a struggle ensued between the 61 year old woman and the man. A female family member who was nearby came to the victim’s assistance, as well as two male members of the public who were in the vicinity. As a result the suspect, a 45 year old Pembroke man, was apprehended. He was subsequently arrested by Police, taken to the Hamilton Police Station and detained. The victim was treated at KEMH for minor injuries (abrasions, sore right ankle) and released. Inquiries into this incident are underway.

Theft

At 4am on Monday, Police attended a reported theft from an unattended vehicle on Marsh Folly Road in Pembroke (Bernard Park). On arrival officers spoke with the complainant who stated that an unknown culprit gained entry into a car parked on the property. The culprit stole an unknown amount of coins and a cigarette lighter. A short time later the suspect, a 25 year old Devonshire man, was located in the area. He was arrested, taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
