Fatal RTC

Around 9:20pm on Monday, Police attended a reported serious road traffic collision on North Street in Pembroke involving an auxiliary cycle and a motorcycle. It appears that the auxiliary cycle was traveling west on North Street near the House of India when the motorcycle which was traveling in the opposite direction attempted a right turn across the path of the auxiliary cycle, causing a collision. As a result the passenger on the motorcycle, a 24 year old Canadian woman, sustained serious head injuries. She was rushed to KEMH via ambulance where she was treated in the Intensive Care Unit; however, she succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead around 4:20am today. The rider of the motorcycle, a 28 year old Southampton man, was not injured. The rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 16 year old Pembroke boy, received minor injuries (abrasions & cuts). No further information will be released until the next of kin have been notified. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to contact PC Sean Mullan on 295-0011. This marks the 9th road traffic fatality for 2005.

Weekend Activity

Between the evening of Friday, September 2 and the morning of Tuesday, September 6, 2005 there were 7 people arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and 10 incidents of breaking and entering. There were also 30 damage only road traffic collisions and 9 road traffic collisions resulting in injury.

Between 5:30pm on Friday and 5am on Saturday, the Police Support Unit arrested 25 people for a variety of offences including suspicion of possession of a controlled drug, disqualified driving, outstanding warrants, offensive words, and suspicion of impaired driving. They also conducted traffic checks on Frog Lane in Devonshire resulting in 6 arrests – 2 on outstanding warrants and 4 on drug related matters.

Between 8pm on Saturday and 4am on Sunday the Police Support Unit arrested 5 people for a variety of offences including suspicion of possession of a controlled drug, outstanding warrants, possession of an offensive weapon and for being drunk & incapable.
