Disturbance

Around 11:55pm on Tuesday, Police attended a reported disturbance at a St. George's guest property. On arrival officers spoke with the victim, a 43 year old South African woman, who is a visitor to the island. She stated that around 11:45pm she was asleep in her apartment when she was awoken by a noise at the front door. She went to investigate, but did not observe anything suspicious until she returned to her bedroom, where she saw an unknown man lying next to the bed. The South African woman ran from the apartment screaming and was chased by the suspect, who caught up with her and tried to cover her mouth with his hand. However, the victim bit the suspect's fingers and her screams awoke other residents of the complex. The suspect then made good his escape on foot. The victim sustained minor injuries to her elbow and the soles of her bare feet when she fell while running away from the suspect. The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s of slim build, approximately 5'10" tall wearing white basketball type sneakers, a large baggy white t-shirt and blue 3/4 length jeans. The victim's brown ostrich skin purse containing U.S. $200 in cash, an undisclosed amount of foreign currency and personal items was removed from the apartment. Inquiries into this incident are underway. Police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident or anyone with any information to contact the St. George's Criminal Investigation Unit on 297-1122.

Arrest

Around 11:55am on Tuesday, Police attended Horseshoe Bay Beach in Southampton after a report of a man performing an indecent act. On arrival officers spoke with a lifeguard on duty who stated that a 43 year old female visitor to the island reported that a man committed an indecent act in front of her on the beach. The suspect, a 41 year old man, was confronted by the lifeguard and left the area prior to Police arrival; however, while officers were at the beach recording details of the incident he returned and was arrested. The 41 year old man was subsequently taken to Hamilton Police Station and detained. Inquiries into this incident are ongoing.
