Collision At Somerset Bridge

Mon, 2010-02-22

Around 4:40pm today, Police attended a reported road traffic collision resulting in injury at Somerset Bridge (Somerset Road in Sandys parish near the junction with Wharf Drive) involving a car, a motorcycle and an auxiliary cycle. It appears that the motorcycle and the auxiliary cycle were traveling east on Somerset Road and the car was traveling in the opposite direction when the driver of the car, a 40 year old Paget woman, lost control. As a result the car collided with the auxiliary cycle, a wall and the motorcycle. The rider of the auxiliary cycle, a 64 year old Sandys parish woman, sustained injures to both legs as well as her head. She was taken to KEMH via ambulance for treatment. The driver of the car was not injured; nor was the rider of the motorcycle, a 40 year old Warwick man. The car received front end damage while the motorcycle received rear end damage. The damage received by the auxiliary cycle was unclear. There were considerable traffic delays as a result, with both lanes of Somerset Road at Somerset Bridge blocked initially; then one lane was opened under the direction of Police officers at the scene to allow some traffic through. Regular traffic flow resumed approximately three hours after the collision occurred. Inquiries into this incident are underway.
