August 4 - Weekly Review

Tue, 2009-08-04

The Bermuda Police Service continues to advise the motoring public to slow down and to drive as well as ride responsibly on the island’s roads. Additionally, we urge those traveling in cars to use their seatbelts at all times and make sure any children traveling in the vehicle are appropriately restrained. Those traveling on motorcycles should always fasten their helmets and avoid making a third lane.

During the week of Monday, July 27th - Monday August 3rd 2009 there were:

  • Reported Injury Collisions = 33
  • Reported Damage Only Collisions = 34
  • Arrests on Suspicion of Impaired Driving = 5
  • Vehicles Reported Taken Without Their Owners’ Consent = 10
  • Number of vehicles reported stolen by parish: Hamilton parish = 2, Pembroke = 4, Warwick = 1, Southampton = 1 and Sandys parish = 2.

Most of the vehicles removed were either auxiliary cycles or motorcycles, with 1 dump truck also reported stolen during the period. Of the 10 vehicles reported stolen, 3 were subsequently recovered, including the dump truck.

Witness Appeal - Fatal RTC

The Bermuda Police Service would like the assistance of the public in identifying where 33 year old Mr. James Quinn was in the hours leading up to his death on Saturday 1st August, 2009. We would especially like to speak with anyone that may have conveyed him from White Horse Tavern in St. George’s to the City of Hamilton. This may have been a taxi driver. Also, we are interested in whether or not he was present in any establishment immediately prior to his death around 1:48am. Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Mr. James Quinn immediately prior to his death, or anything pertinent to the circumstances – however seemingly irrelevant – is asked to contact PC Mervin Homer at 295-0011.
