Witnesses Sought After Pedestrian Hurt by ‘Hit & Run’ Motorcyclist [Updated]

Approximately 1am Monday, May 21st police and fellow first responders attended a reported collision on Parliament Street in the City of Hamilton, near the junction with Church Street.

It appears that a motorcyclist riding along Parliament Street struck a male pedestrian, knocking him to the ground.

The offending motorcyclist then struck a nearby parked car, damaging its wing mirror, before falling to the ground.

However, the unknown rider quickly got back on the motorcycle and rode off.

The pedestrian, believed to be a 53 year old Pembroke man, was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment of a suspected head injury.

At last check 9:30am today (May 21st) the injured pedestrian was in stable condition. A further update on his medical condition will be provided in due course.

Traffic was diverted away from the area for approximately two hours while the relevant police personnel processed the scene.

Police have reviewed CCTV footage of the incident and are appealing for the motorcyclist involved to turn themselves in to Hamilton Police Station.

Inquiries continue and any witnesses or persons with information regarding the rider of the motorcycle involved, said to be a blue step through type with front end damage – or the motorcycle’s location – are encouraged to contact the main police telephone number 295-0011.

Update: Tuesday, May 22nd - At last check this morning (May 22nd) the 53 year old male pedestrian hurt around 1am Monday, May 21st during a hit and run involving a motorcyclist on Parliament Street in the City of Hamilton – near the junction with Church Street – was recovering in stable condition on a general ward at the hospital.

Leaving the scene of this collision was a callous act. Police continue to appeal for any witnesses to come forward and urge the motorcyclist involved to turn themselves in to Hamilton Police Station.

BPS & Corporation of Hamilton Meet Often to Discuss Policing in City

The Bermuda Police Service is aware of the recent incidents of anti-social behaviour taking place in and around the City of Hamilton. In a number of those cases, individuals have been arrested and placed before the courts.

Police representatives meet regularly with Corporation of Hamilton officials and as recently as last Wednesday (May 16th), a meeting was held to address key concerns as it relates to policing in and around the City of Hamilton.

Members of the public can also assist in helping to make the City of Hamilton safer by reporting any illegal activity or anti-social behavior they may encounter to the Central Community Action Team on 295-0011 at the earliest opportunity.
