Two Male Riders Injured in Pembroke Collision Friday: One Arrested

Around 6:20pm Friday, January 17th police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel were dispatched to a reported two vehicle collision in Pembroke.

It appears that a motorcyclist, said to be a 54 year old Devonshire man, was traveling west along St. John’s Road and a 50cc scooter rider, said to be a 24 year old Pembroke man, was traveling in the opposite direction when the collision occurred near the junction with Cox’s Hill Road.

Both riders were injured and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment.

The younger man is understood to have sustained a broken jaw, a laceration to his knee and bruises to his body, while the older man is understood to have sustained a laceration to his head as well as bruises to his hands and legs.

At last check Friday night, the two riders involved remained in hospital receiving medical care.

The motorcyclist was later arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and then released on police bail.

The scene was processed and inquiries continue.

Upcoming Road Sobriety Checkpoints in 7 Parishes

The Bermuda Police Service would like to advise the public that the next series of road sobriety checkpoints (as specified in the Official Gazette Notice Wednesday, January 15th) will be conducted starting Friday, January 24th.

The checkpoints will be in effect in Hamilton parish, Smith’s parish, Devonshire, Pembroke, Paget, Warwick and Southampton on Friday, January 24th, Saturday, January 25th and Sunday, January 26th.
