Sudden Death of Mark Whayman

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 53 year old Mark Whayman of St. George’s, who was involved in a reported marine incident that occurred around 11:30pm Sunday, September 21st in the Castle Harbour area.

He was subsequently pronounced dead at 12:25am Monday, September 22nd at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital. Circumstances surrounding the death of Mr. Whayman are the subject of an ongoing investigation, however foul play is not suspected.

The Bermuda Police Service extends condolences to Mr. Whayman’s family & friends.

Car Driver Arrested on Suspicion of Impaired Driving

Around 1:30am on Saturday, September 20th first responders attended a reported collision involving a motorcycle and an auxiliary cycle resulting in non-life threatening injuries on South Road in Warwick near the junction with Marley Beach Drive.

A short time later a car was driven through the South Road scene, apparently colliding with one of the cycles involved in the original collision before leaving the area.

Police officers subsequently located the offending vehicle in the Ord Road, Witchery Lane Warwick area where the car’s driver, a 26 year old Warwick man, was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving. A court appearance is anticipated in due course.

Weekend Police Activity

Over the weekend police officers arrested four people on suspicion of impaired driving as the Selective Traffic Enforcement Programme (STEP) continues.

Officers also arrested 21 people for outstanding warrants and conducted liquor license checks at various liquor licensed premises throughout the island.
