Reported Serious Horse & Carriage Incident in Devonshire [Updated]

Around 3:20pm today (March 8th) police and first responders were dispatched to a reported serious incident involving a carriage pulled by two horses that occurred on Brighton Hill Road in Devonshire, near the junction with Middle Road.

It appears that no other vehicles were involved.

The male carriage driver was injured and transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance.

He is believed to be in a serious condition and a medical update is anticipated in due course.

Both horses involved had to be euthanized.

Traffic diversions in the area are still in effect as the scene is being processed by the relevant police personnel.

Update: The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 69 year old Mr. Howard Charles and extends sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Mr. Charles was seriously injured in an incident that occurred around 3:20pm today (March 8th) on Brighton Hill Road in Devonshire involving the carriage he was driving, pulled by two horses.

He was rushed to hospital via ambulance but sadly, later pronounced dead.

Traffic diversions in the Brighton Hill Road, Middle Road Devonshire area are no longer in effect and the investigation continues regarding the circumstances of this incident.
