Police Officer Discharged From BPS After Incest Conviction

Wed, 2015-06-24

Commissioner of Police Michael DeSilva - The Supreme Court yesterday convicted a 37 year old man for incest. The court found that the man had sexually exploited his daughter while in a position of trust.

The Bermuda Police Service treats offences committed against children very seriously and we recently increased the number of investigators trained to deal with those crimes.

The public has a legitimate expectation that their police service will do all it can to tackle crimes committed against children.

It is particularly disheartening to report that the man convicted in this case was a police officer with 18 years of service.

He has been discharged from the police service with immediate effect.

I am appreciative of the excellent work that was done by all involved to bring the case to court and I am particularly mindful of the courage and perseverance of the victim in this case.
