The Bermuda Police Service has taken delivery of a new police vessel. “Heron 3” is a 32’ Boston Whaler that replaces its predecessor of the same name. The former boat, a 27’ Boston Whaler was taken out of service last December following a commissioned marine survey that revealed structural hull failure beyond repair. The boat was 18 years old.

The new “Heron 3” was specially equipped for police patrols by Brunswick Commercial Government Products Ltd., based in the USA. It is powered by twin Evinrude 300HP G2 outboard engines that were purchased through the local Evinrude dealer, Bermuda Marine and Supply. The total cost of the vessel is $245,000 and funding was made available in the Police capital budget for 2015/16.

“Heron 3” has been fitted with BPS corporate markings that ensure it is highly visible whilst patrolling inshore and offshore territorial waters.

Commissioner of Police, Michael DeSilva: “The vessel is a welcomed addition to our small fleet of six boats, some of which are aging considerably and coming close to the end of their operational life. It will be a significant asset to help maintain our presence on the water, to police significant maritime events during the summer, and to contribute to the national effort of search and rescue response.”
