Death of 69 Year Old Howard Charles Marks Year’s 1st Road Fatality

The investigation continues regarding the death of 69 year old Howard Charles – the first road fatality of 2018 – following a serious incident involving the carriage he was driving, pulled by two horses, around 3:20pm Thursday, March 8th on Brighton Hill Road in Devonshire between Middle Road and Watlington Road East.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist the deceased’s family at this difficult time and any witnesses that have not already come forward are asked to please contact the main police telephone number 295-0011 as soon as possible.

Advisory: Police Motorcycle Training Course March 12th – March 29th

The motoring public is advised that the Bermuda Police Service Driver Training Unit will be conducting a Standard Police Motorcycle Course from Monday, 12th March until Thursday, 29th March 2018.

The officers on the course will be riding in a group of three and at times, at high speed. Lights and sirens may also be used during the training.

As usual, the police motorcyclists involved will be easy to identify by their reflective yellow vests. Motorists are reminded to give way and exercise caution – as they would for any emergency vehicle – if they encounter these police motorcyclists during training.

Reported Single Vehicle Car Crash in Smith’s Parish

Around 1:15pm Thursday, March 8th police and first responders were dispatched to a reported single vehicle car crash on Harrington Sound Road in Smith’s parish near the junction with Devil’s Hole Hill.

It appears that the driver, an 82 year old Smith’s parish woman, struck a wall while traveling in the westbound lane of Harrington Sound Road.

Apparently the driver and her 83 year old husband, who was the front seat passenger, were not seriously hurt. However, the car was damaged. Any witnesses can call the main police telephone number 295-0011.
