Bermuda National Heroes Day Holiday Weekend Advisory

Thu, 2017-06-15

Assistant Commissioner of Police Antoine Daniels – There are a number of events scheduled for Bermuda National Heroes Day holiday weekend and the Bermuda Police Service is seeking the public’s cooperation during the festivities.

In particular, the public should be aware of the following:

5 Star Friday (June 16th) – commencing at 7pm at the National Sports Centre. Parking for Friday evening’s concert is at CedarBridge Academy and parked vehicles should not obstruct any surrounding roads or driveways.

BHW Raft Up (Saturday, June 17th) – A noise permit has been granted from 12 noon until 6pm for Saturday’s Raft-Up at Shelly Bay and area residents are asked to exercise patience as a compromise with event organisers. In addition, BHW organisers have indicated that no glass containers will be allowed and private security will be screening attendees prior to entry.

Super Hero J’ouvert (Monday, June 19th) – From 3am until 8am at Bernard’s Park. Dutton Avenue will be closed for the event, but access will be provided via Parsons Road with parking available at Bull’s Head car park.

BHW Parade of Bands (Monday, June 19th) – From 2pm until 10pm ending at Clearwater Beach. There will be limited access via Number 2 Gate where the parade begins and travels the entire length of Southside Road, turning right onto Cooper’s Island Road and onto Clearwater Beach. It is anticipated that the parade will have approximately 2,500 participants with a large number of spectators lining the parade route. Access to Cooper’s Island Road is via payment due to the BHW event.

Motorists, particularly those living and/or traveling in the east end on Monday afternoon, should expect delays due to the high volumes of traffic expected. Traffic diversions will be in place as a result of road closures and large numbers of people are anticipated to be in attendance.

The Bermuda Police Service takes this opportunity to wish everyone a safe holiday weekend and to enjoy themselves responsibly.
