Apparent Drowning of American Visitor Kevin Keeley

Thu, 2015-05-21

The Bermuda Police Service can now confirm the death of 52 year old American visitor Kevin Keeley and extends condolences to his family and friends.

It appears that Mr. Keeley, from California, was initially aboard the local pleasure boat ‘Aristocat’ before he encountered difficulty while swimming in the waters near Watford Bridge in Sandys parish around 3:45pm Wednesday, May 20th.

Marine police officers promptly arrived on scene and assisted persons aboard the ‘Aristocat’ who were already providing CPR. America’s Cup Oracle Team USA crew members training in the area offered their EMT, who joined in the lifesaving efforts.

However despite these combined attempts, which continued during transport to shore and by ambulance to the hospital, Mr. Keeley was later pronounced dead at 4:21pm Wednesday.

A Family Liaison Officer has been assigned to assist Mr. Keeley’s loved ones at this difficult time.

The Bermuda Police Service would like to commend all persons who provided assistance during this incident, as well as those members of the public that came to the aid of 25 year old Wilmis Herrera Moreno, who also died following an unrelated swimming incident at ‘Paradise Lakes’ around 6pm Tuesday, May 19th.
