Around 1:10pm today (February 6th) police officers responded to a reported aggravated robbery at Somers Garden in St. George’s.

Initial information indicates that a group of CedarBridge Academy students along with their teachers were on a field trip visiting St. George’s.

As the students and teachers entered Somers Garden a 17 year old male student was attacked by two males – described as approximately 5 feet tall, 18 to 20 years old wearing a black tracksuit and approximately 5 feet 5 inches tall wearing a green or grey tracksuit respectively – who grabbed a gold chain from around his neck.

As a result, the 17 year old male student received scratches to his neck.

One of the teachers, said to be a 30 year old woman, tried to intervene and sustained an injury to one of her fingers. She also dropped her black iPhone 8 during the incident, which was picked up by the assailants before they made good their escape.

The teacher was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital by private vehicle for treatment.

Update: Preliminary inquiries do not substantiate that a gold chain was taken from the 17 year old male CedarBridge Academy student at Somers Garden, as initial information had suggested. However, detectives continue to look into the assault of the student by two males and the theft of the teacher’s cellular phone. Driver Transported to Hospital via Ambulance After Car Overturns

Police and Bermuda Fire Services responded to a report of an incident that took place on Headquarters Hill, Prospect Devonshire outside of the Police Recreation Club at 1:38pm today (Wednesday).

It appears that a 78 year old man, as a result of a medical incident, lost control of his vehicle – resulting in the car overturning with the man trapped inside.

Individuals in the immediate area came to the driver’s aid and extricated him from the vehicle.

The Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service processed the scene and performed first aid until the 78 year old man was taken via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, where his condition is unknown at this point.

However, an update on the driver is anticipated in due course.

Update: Thursday, February 7th - At last check this morning (February 7th), the 78 year old man believed to be from Sandys parish who overturned his car on Headquarters Hill, Prospect Devonshire outside of the Police Recreation Club at 1:38pm Wednesday, February 6th – as a result of a suspected medical incident – was listed in stable condition in the hospital. Community Meeting in Warwick This Friday to Discuss Kite Flying

The Bermuda Police Service is aware that kite flying has been a staple of Bermudian culture for years.

However more recently, reports have been received of kites being flown to the annoyance of other residents.

In light of this, Western Community Action Team officers have organised a community meeting at Bright Temple AME Church in Spring Hill, Warwick from 6:30pm until 8:30pm Friday, February 8th to facilitate a discussion regarding kite flying, which will allow different viewpoints to be expressed and potential solutions to be identified.

Warwick residents as well as any members of the public who wish to contribute to the discussion are encouraged to attend to voice their concerns and recommendations.
