Appeal for Witnesses to Three Weekend Incidents

Car Overturned - Around 5:55 p.m. on Friday, 9th April 2021, police attended a reported single vehicle road traffic collision on Middle Road, Southampton.

The vehicle was traveling west in the vicinity of Industrial Park, when the driver reportedly swayed onto the opposite side of the road and struck a wall, causing the car to flip on its roof.

The driver complained of pain to his ribs, back and neck.

He was transported to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to his injuries which were not considered life-threatening.

COVID-19 Regulations Breach at Bostock Hill East, Paget Property

Around 8:30 p.m. on Friday 2nd April, police responded to a report of a COVID breach at a residence on Bostock Hill East, Paget.

Upon arrival officers observed a group of approximately 20 persons standing on an outside porch.

They were reportedly not practicing social distancing or wearing masks.

As officers approached the residence, persons proceeded to immediately leave. The incident was recorded on police body camera and the registrations of a number of vehicles parked at the residence were also recorded.

The organisers of the event were identified and a file on the matter is being prepared in anticipation of a court appearance.

Single Vehicle Car Crash on Harbour Road, Paget

Around 10:40 p.m. on Friday 2nd April, 2021, police responded to a report of a single vehicle road traffic collision on Harbour Road, near the junction with Pomander Road in Paget.

Officers arrived to find the vehicle overturned and lying on its roof, with two men trapped inside.

However, they were both able to get out of the vehicle on their own, having sustained only minor injuries.

The driver, who at the time appeared disoriented, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired after he reportedly failed a breath test.

Reported Armed Robbery at The Cake Shop Bakery

Around 4:38 p.m. today, Thursday 1st April, 2021, police responded to a report of an armed robbery at the Cake Shop Bakery, on Curving Avenue, Pembroke.

Upon arrival officers were informed that two men brandishing firearms, entered the premises, went to the cash register and took an undisclosed quantity of cash.

One suspect is described as 6’ 2” tall, slim built, light complexioned and wearing a black hoodie with his face covered.

The second suspect is said to be 5’ 3” tall, stockily built, also wearing a black hoodie with his face covered.

It is believed the suspects fled the scene on a motorcycle.

There were no reported injuries.

Cause of Fire at Derelict St. Augustine Lane Building Under Investigation

Shortly before 4:15 this morning, Wednesday 31st March, 2021, police were dispatched to a report of a fire at a derelict two storey building on St. Augustine Lane, Pembroke.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.

However, following an initial assessment, with no electricity supply to the premises, the cause is being considered suspicious.

There is nothing to indicate this is linked to the recent spate of fires in the Pembroke area, but that possibility has not been ruled out.

There have so far been no reported injuries as a result of this incident.

Two Teens Hurt, One Seriously, in Single Vehicle Car Crash

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on Monday 29th March, 2021, police responded to a report of a single vehicle collision involving a motorcar, near the junction of Knapton Hill and Idle Acres Road, Smith’s Parish. 

Upon arrival, officers discovered two of the four occupants, both males, aged 16 and 17, were injured in the collision.

The 16-year-old, who was unresponsive, remained trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated by personnel from Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.

Both injured parties were transported via ambulance to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment to their injuries.

At last check, the 16-year-old remained unresponsive and is warded in the hospital’s intensive care unit. The seventeen-year-old was attended to for a leg injury and discharged.

The driver of the vehicle, which was extensively damaged, was arrested on suspicion of driving whilst impaired, but subsequently passed the breath test.

Inquiries Into Hit & Run Involving Two Motorcycles in Devonshire

Around 9:25pm Wednesday, March 24th a two motorcycle collision occurred near the junction of Palmetto Road and Roberts Avenue in Devonshire.

Police, Bermuda Fire & Rescue Service as well as ambulance personnel responded to the scene.

It appears that a 58-year-old male was riding a black motorcycle east on Palmetto Road with a 44-year-old male passenger and an unknown motorcyclist with an unknown passenger was traveling in the opposite direction along Palmetto Road when the unknown motorcyclist overtook a car and struck the side of the eastbound motorcycle causing all four individuals – along with both motorcycles – to fall onto the road.
