Minister of Public Safety & Housing Lt. Col. David Burch
Good Morning. We do not normally comment on the security arrangements for the Premier of Bermuda, however, it is my regrettable task this morning to do so. In this season of rumours and speculation it is important for the public to be aware of a security matter concerning the Premier. Yesterday postal workers intercepted a package addressed to the Premier which caused some suspicion. Upon further examination it was confirmed that the package contained a threat leveled at the Premier. The Police have sufficient grounds to take the threat seriously and that a criminal offence has been committed. A Police investigation has been launched.
Police are still appealing for witnesses to the serious single vehicle road traffic collision resulting in injury that took place at the junction of Elliot Street and Princess Street in Pembroke around 3:20 Sunday morning. Details at this point are sketchy however, it appears that a 22 year old Pembroke man was traveling on a cycle on that said road when he lost control of his bike resulting in the rider being found on the ground unconscious. He was taken to KEMH where he is presently in the Intensive Care Unit in critical condition.
Contrary to a published video feed that is presently appearing on the website YouTube by ex Superintendent Larry Smith, the matters that he is referring to in the case of the Crown vs. Flood and Madeiros were fully investigated and adjudicated in a court of law and as far as the Bermuda Police Service is concerned, that matter is officially closed.
